8.75 tall 4.75 Diameter Has a hairline crack looks like it was repaired Marked on the bottom Made in Germany The Manufacturer: These salt-glazed stoneware pieces were manufactured in Germany during the late 1900s to early 1920s. They were specially ordered as promotional items for M. Friedman & Co., which was a prominent furniture store located at 237 Post Street in San Francisco. The company famously stamped its underside with the slogan: The Biggest Furniture House on the Pacific Coast The embossed relief on the front side depicts a turn-of-the-century woman struggling against a gust of wind on a downtown city street, holding onto her large hat and dress. The reverse side of the pitcher prominently features the iconic New York City Flatiron Building. The Robinson Clay Connection: While very similar Windy City molds were produced domestically by the Robinson Clay Product Co. of Akron, Ohio, this specific version with the M. Friedman association was contracted overseas to achieve a German Flemish blue-and-gray salt glaze look. They were routinely gifted to clients who purchased large furniture sets.
