Charming Vintage Floral Butter Pats / Small Trinket Dishes - Set of 3

The 3-inch dishes are authentic antique butter pats, as this was the absolute sweet spot size for individual Victorian tableware. Why Are They Unmarked? It is incredibly common for antique butter pats from this era (circa 1890–1920) to have no stamps or maker's marks. There are two main reasons for this: Part of a Larger Set: Manufacturers often only stamped the largest focal pieces of a dinnerware service. The tiny accessory pieces like butter pats and salt cellars were left blank to cut down on production time and labor costs. Many factories produced undecorated ceramic blanks in massive quantities. These blanks were then purchased, decorated with floral transfer decals, gilded by independent regional studios or hobbyists, and sold without a primary factory stamp. Attributing the design given the combination of the 3-inch size, the scalloped rim and the central pink rose transferware, these most likely originated from one of two regions: The Ohio River Valley, USA: Potteries like Homer Laughlin or the Potters Co-Operative produced vast amounts of unmarked semi-vitreous ironstone with identical cottage rose styles for the American market. Bavaria (Germany) or Limoges (France): European porcelain houses regularly exported highly translucent, delicate 3-inch blank dishes decorated with these identical romantic moss rose transfers. The crazing is stunning. SK38 NO Chips, NO Cracks Wigth 3” W. 3.1oz
