Vintage West Virginia Glass Cocktail Shaker Pheasant

During the mid-20th century, American home entertaining experienced a massive boom that popularized themed barware sets featuring vibrant enamel decals and metallic gold trim. Companies like the West Virginia Glass Specialty Company capitalized on this trend by producing economical yet stylish glassware decorated with popular motifs like game birds, sporting dogs, and cocktail themes. These pieces were typically sold in department stores as complete sets including shakers, pitchers, and matching highball glasses for suburban home bars. The ring-necked pheasant motif reflected a broader cultural appreciation for outdoor sports, hunting, and rustic naturalism in post-war interior design. Manufacturers applied these detailed multi-color lithographic transfers by hand or semi-automatic machine before firing them onto the glass to ensure durability against frequent washing. Today, these surviving mid-century barware pieces are actively sought after by collectors of retro home accessories and mid-century modern kitchenware.
