Tsuishu Kogo
A kogo is a container for incense. This one is made using a technique called Tsuishu. Tsuishu is a technique where layers of red lacquer are applied, and patterns are carved into these lacquer layers. If you look closely at the pattern on this kogo, you will see that layers of green, black, yellow, and other colored lacquers are stacked beneath the red lacquer on the surface. Combined with subtle curves, this creates a beautiful color tone.
It was kept by a family member. It is likely a souvenir from a trip to China.
