Seto Ware, Old Sometsuke Replica, Pine, Bamboo, and Plum, Ceramic Four-Tiered Jubako Box with Wooden Box (Unused Item)
44.22 $
Description
A ceramic tiered box (jubako) in a wooden box.
The inscription on the box reads Asahi Kiln and Kosen-de.
Based on its design and craftsmanship, this item is a ceramic tiered box in the Seto ware style, likely made between the early to mid-Showa period (approximately the 1930s to 1950s).
Asahi Kiln written on the wooden box is one of the kiln names (business names) that existed around Seto and Mino. This kiln produced cobalt-blue decorated works that were slightly more refined than everyday tableware during the Showa period.
The style of Kosen-de imitation seen in this item reflects the trend of tea ceremony utensils and New Year's tableware at the time.
Kosen-de itself is a style name influenced by Chinese Ming dynasty cobalt-blue decorated porcelain, and imitation works were produced in Japan, primarily in Seto and Mino.
Among these, this item is a tiered box that unifies the auspicious motifs of pine, bamboo, and plum in its overall composition, and is considered to have been specially made as a celebratory vessel for special occasions.
This item is unused but has been stored for a long time.
We believe it is a rare tiered box that conveys the atmosphere of that era in good condition.
It is a four-tiered square box with a lid. The pattern is an intricate design combining seigaiha (blue ocean waves) and geometric patterns.
The raised base design is also beautiful and would look striking even as a display piece.
