Tsugaru Lacquerware Sweet Bowl, Kara-nuri, Aomori, Traditional Crafts, Lacquerware, Japan, Tableware
Tsugaru-nuri confectionery bowl. Karana-nuri, Nanako-nuri.
Tsugaru-nuri is a traditional craft from the Hirosaki region of Aomori, with a history spanning 300 years since the Edo period.
It involves complex techniques of repeatedly applying and polishing many layers of lacquer, sometimes dozens of times.
The characteristic beautiful and dynamic appearance, reminiscent of Aomori's nature and seasons, is created by scattering tin and gold powder within the lacquer colors of pear black (black tones), madder red (red tones), and green.
It is crafted with durability in mind as an item to be used over time. I believe that after more than 60 years, the red, green, and gold have deepened and gained a richer patina. It is a vessel with a mysterious charm that makes you want to gaze at it forever, like looking at green and vermilion flowers.
This is an old item, but we hope it will be appreciated by someone who loves it.
