MID CENTURY MODERN “Monterey Jade” VASE  This stunning handcrafted vase is a piece of Mid-Century Modern art pottery featuring an organic, hourglass-inspired silhouette.   The design is defined by an elongated, flared neck that tapers down tightly before opening into a wide, teardrop-shaped base.   It is coated in a glossy multi-tonal proprietary drip glaze featuring large, abstract circular pools of cobalt blue, emerald green, and teal, intersected by a neutral, muddy foaming grayish matrix.   While individual hand-thrown pieces can vary slightly, this exact large vase measures 11.5 inches tall and approximately 4.5 inches wide at the broadest part of its base.  The piece originates from the Monterey Pottery Company, a California art pottery studio active from the 1940s through the 1960s.   Located in Carmel Valley, California, the studio created its proprietary Monterey Jade glaze line. The trademarked color formulation was deliberately designed to emulate the natural, mottled patterns of authentic jade stone found along the rugged Big Sur coast.
