Signed studio pottery vase by noted New York ceramic artist James Sankowski (1949–2017) of Ballston Lake Pottery. This sculptural stoneware vase has a bulbous ovoid form with a tall cylindrical neck, small applied ears and raised abstract decoration. It's finished in a muted gray/blue/green glaze with warm tan accents and darker detailing. Sankowski was a noted New York studio potter who operated Ballston Lake Pottery from 1975–2017. His work appeared in Ceramics Monthly and Studio Potter, and he participated in national exhibitions including the Smithsonian Craft Show. This piece has been professionally appraised by Mearto and identified as an authentic James Sankowski Ballston Lake Pottery piece. A copy of the appraisal can be provided. This is in great preowned condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Minor variations and surface characteristics are consistent with handmade studio pottery. Measurements: Approximately 7.5 H x 5.5 W x 4.5 D.
