Bamboo design, Showa retro, antique, lacquerware, document box, storage box

A beautiful black lacquer writing box with a bamboo motif.
It might be Yamanaka lacquerware or Wajima lacquerware, but I'm not sure.

This is likely a black lacquered writing box (fumibako) or possibly a suzuribako (inkstone box) with a bamboo pattern.
It is an old item, and the ■ in the photo indicates where a name is written.
My grandfather received it as a wedding gift, used it a little, and then stored it away.

As it is over 50 years old, there are some scuffs and scratches on the bottom, but I believe it is in relatively good condition.

The design features a bamboo forest depicted in vermilion or orange against a black lacquer background.
Writing boxes are often used to store important letters, documents, postcards, seals, and other small items.
It seems to be popular as a Showa retro antique or as a case for calligraphy supplies.

I will pass it on to someone who will appreciate it.
