Ise Katagami Important Intangible Cultural Property Edo Komon Gyogi Tanmono Hama Chirimen / Hakake with Certificate
This is a set of gray Edo Komon (fine-patterned kimono fabric) and Hachikake (lining fabric for kimono sleeves).
It has been stored unused. The purchase date is unknown, but we estimate it to be around 20-25 years ago.
The Komon is a work by Toshio Hosagoi, a traditional craftsman of Ise Katagami, which is designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property. The pattern is Gyogi, considered the highest-ranking and most prestigious pattern among Edo Komon.
There is a faint stain approximately 1 meter from the beginning of the roll, which is barely visible in the photo (see the 10th photo).
●About Gyogi:
Gyogi is one of the Edo Komon San'yaku (three main Edo Komon patterns), alongside Same (sharkskin) and Kadooshi (vertical stripes), and is treated as a special category within Edo Komon. It carries the meaning of proper conduct and showing respect, and is considered a pattern of elegance and dignity.
The Hachikake was made for Ise Katagami and features a charming amulet pattern on a very supple fabric.
There is one stain on the back side (the edge that was on the outside during storage) (please refer to the 18th photo).
