Antique Retro Traditional Craftwork Kamakura-bori Document Box Inkstone Box

AI-generated description (may be inaccurate)

This is a product of Kamakura-bori, a traditional craft made in the Kamakura City area of Kanagawa Prefecture.

Features and Types
Technique: Patterns are carved into Japanese hornbeam or ginkgo wood, and then finished by repeatedly applying lacquer. The knife marks intentionally left behind create a unique shadow and texture.
Design: Bold carvings of flowers such as persimmons, peonies, and camellias are common. In this image, the motif appears to be persimmons.
Product Use: Common types include document boxes (fubako) or inkstone cases (suzuri-bako) for storing stationery, or small chests for accessories.
Kamakura-bori is durable, and its charm lies in the way the lacquer's luster increases and develops a deep richness with continued use.

External Dimensions: Approx. Height 33 cm, Width 23.7 cm, Depth 11 cm
