Vintage Japanese ceramic Yasugi-bushi doll

This vintage Japanese ceramic figurine appears to depict a dancer performing the traditional Yasugi-bushi loach scooping dance while wearing a green kimono and headscarf. Origin: Commonly produced in mid-century Japan as a cultural souvenir or folk art piece. Design: Features a hand-painted matte bisque finish with a green patterned robe and a woven basket prop. The handwritten kanji on the headscarf explicitly confirms this is a Yasugi-bushi (安来節) folk dance figurine. Maker & OriginThe Brand: The green felt and silver foil sticker on the bottom identifies this piece as a vintage export item from Toyo Japan. Toyo was a prominent mid-to-late 20th-century importer/manufacturer known for distributing fine Japanese porcelain, bisque figurines, and hand-painted art pottery to global markets. The Script: The text written on the white headscarf reads 安来節 (Yasugi-bushi). This refers directly to the famous traditional folk song and loach-scooping dance (Dojou-sukui) from the Shimane Prefecture in Japan. Estimated Era: This style of hand-painted matte bisque porcelain and the specific design of the foil Toyo sticker date the piece back to the mid-century period (circa 1960s–1980s).
