Description
This is a rare first printing of the Bantam Books paperback edition of Cyrano de Bergerac, published in December 1950. This classic heroic comedy in five acts by Edmond Rostand features the acclaimed English verse translation by Brian Hooker, which was specifically prepared for the legendary Walter Hampden. The cover art is a striking vintage illustration tied to the Stanley Kramer movie production starring José Ferrer, making it a wonderful crossover collectible for both literature and film enthusiasts. As a complete and unabridged edition, this pocket-sized volume brings Rostand's masterpiece to life with all the wit, panache, and heartbreak of the original play. The interior includes the detailed printing history from the original Holt edition, dating back to 1923, and confirms this specific Bantam edition as the November 1950 first printing. A perfect addition for collectors of vintage Bantam books, classic drama, or mid-century paperback cover art.
