J.M. Dent & Co.
Beautiful antique partial collection of 14 volumes from The Temple Shakespeare, published in London by J.M. Dent & Co., Aldine House. Individual edition statements date this group from 1905 through 1909, including 1905, 1906, 1907, 1908 and 1909. The group includes Antony and Cleopatra, As You Like It, The Comedy of Errors, Cymbeline, Twelfth Night, The Winter’s Tale, Two Gentlemen of Verona, King Richard II, King Richard III, King Henry IV Part I, King Henry V, King Henry VIII and additional Shakespeare titles shown in the photographs. These compact early-20th-century editions feature matching burgundy/red leather bindings with gilt titles and decorative motifs to the spines, along with a gilt heraldic crest on the front covers. Most retain their original ribbon page markers. Interior title pages feature the ornate decorative typography and illustrations associated with the Temple Shakespeare series. Condition: Antique condition with substantial age-related wear. Leather bindings show rubbing, edge wear, surface loss, fading and deterioration, particularly at spine ends and corners. Some ribbon markers are frayed or loose. Pages show expected age toning and occasional spotting. Bindings and interiors vary somewhat by volume. Please review all photographs closely for the most accurate representation of condition. This wonderful partial collection is great for Shakespeare collectors, antique-book enthusiasts, dark-academia décor or vintage bookshelf collections.
