Ryukyu Lacquerware - Auspicious Pattern Lacquer Panel - Natural Wood - Natural Lacquer - Grapes and Squirrels - Squirrel - Ryukyu Lacquerware - Maki-e
This is a beautiful panel of Ryukyu lacquerware, a traditional Okinawan craft. It was purchased at the main Ryukyu Lacquerware store and has been kept new and unused. The panel features a rich black lacquer finish with a beautiful Grapes and Squirrels design created using maki-e (lacquer painting with gold or silver powder). It can be framed or displayed standing on a stand. It will be carefully packed with bubble wrap for shipping.
*There is no decoration on the back of the panel.
The Grapes and Squirrels motif is an auspicious and lucky pattern symbolizing prosperity, fertility, and abundance. The combination of abundantly fruiting grapes and squirrels, which are said to bear many offspring at once, conveys a wish for a flourishing family and continuous descendants.
Ryukyu Lacquerware was a long-established lacquerware store that used natural wood and natural lacquer. Unfortunately, it closed down after more than 140 years since its founding. It is unlikely that such pieces will be available in the future. For those who appreciate it.
