Aizu-Wakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture Excavated Vermilion Lacquer Sake Cup Fragment
The description at the time of purchase stated that it came from Aizu-Wakamatsu, a local area.
There are no signs of insect damage, and based on its overall condition, I believe it is one of the unearthed wooden bowls or sake cups.
The vermilion lacquer on the interior and the black lacquer on the exterior show crackling patterns, and where the vermilion lacquer has peeled off on the interior, the wood grain is visible.
I have never seen a small sake cup with such extensive crackling all over, and although it was excavated, I would like to use it as a sake cup. I have actually used it.
It is enjoyable just to hold and look at.
The current size is approximately 8 cm in diameter and 3.3 cm in height.
