Mizu Uchiwa (Water Fan) made in the beautiful natural environment of Mino Province (present-day Gifu Prefecture).
Crafted with a commitment to 100% natural materials, this Mizu Uchiwa is truly a supreme water fan in appearance, born from the river culture and craftsmanship unique to Gifu, including Mino handmade Japanese paper, the bamboo groves of Marugame, Kagawa, and the cormorant fishing of the Nagara River.
There are theories that it is called Mizu Uchiwa because it is translucent and was historically used to cool down by dipping it in water and utilizing evaporative cooling, or that the name comes from its resemblance to clear water.
The bamboo ribs of the fan are covered with a very thin Japanese paper called Ganpishi, which is coated with natural varnish to ensure it is safe even when wet.
The varnish enhances its transparency, allowing you to enjoy a cool and refreshing visual experience.
You can dip it in cold water and fan yourself to enjoy the evaporative cooling and water splashes, or of course, use it as a regular fan.
