Kanzashi Hairpin Mekugi Nuki Japanese Sword Brass Craftwork Uchide no Kozuchi Antique Metal
A craft item with a simple design featuring a metal head and a pointed tip.
It resembles a Kanzashi (hairpin).
It also looks similar to an old tool called a Mekuginuki (pin remover), which is used for maintaining Japanese swords.
The era is unknown. It is believed to be very old.
Mekuginuki are apparently used to remove the small bamboo pin (mekugi) that secures the handle (tsuka) when detaching the handle from the blade of a Japanese sword.
It seems they are commonly made of brass, which is softer than iron, to avoid damaging the sword or accessories.
Please forgive us as we are unable to provide detailed instructions on its use.
The needle part is curved, showing signs of use and a tasteful patina from age-related deterioration.
Rather than for actual use, we recommend it as an antique or art piece for collection and display.
