Description
Acquired several decades ago, this is an item with a profound sense of history.
This piece was acquired from a shop near Shogakuji Temple in Nagasaki during the Showa period, where the owner described it as a period Buddhist ritual implement.
I was fond of its excellent, wild, and sculptural beauty. #Buddhist_statues_for_sale

This is a very rare form of an ancient bronze Vajra (Dorje), a ritual implement known in Esoteric Buddhism.
With six protrusions visible from the top, it is a six-pronged type (also referred to as a seven-pronged Vajra).
It weighs approximately 585g and measures about 18cm, giving it a substantial density when held.
It does not react to magnets, so it is believed to be made of an ancient bronze alloy (such as bronze or brass).
This piece is attractive for its three-dimensional, powerful design and its aged patina, making it recommended for collections and interior decor.

Ritual implements such as the Dokko Sho (single-pronged Vajra), Sanko Sho (three-pronged Vajra), and Goko Sho (five-pronged Vajra), which hold significant symbolic meaning in Esoteric Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism, are tools used in Buddhist ceremonies. Known as symbols originating from ancient India, they are understood in Buddhist art as representing unwavering power and the cutting away of worldly desires, embodying the concepts of thunder and diamond.

Its weight is heavier than it appears, and its texture is completely different from lightweight, thin, souvenir-style replicas.
You can feel the density characteristic of solid metal.
It is a solidly constructed piece, with a certain wabi-sabi aesthetic.

The design differs from the refined styles found in Japanese Shingon Buddhism, and it carries the atmosphere of ritual implements from Tibet, Nepal, and surrounding regions (such as China).
The casting surface and details show nuances unique to handcrafting, giving it a presence distinct from mass-produced crafts.

The Vajra is known as a motif associated with Buddhist deities such as Vajrapani Bodhisattva, Fudo Myoo, and Aizen Myoo, and symbolically it is often spoken of in terms of protection, subjugation, and concentration.

Recommended as a protective charm, amulet, ward against misfortune, auspicious item, ornament, or interior decor object.

It shows signs of age such as verdigris, wear, rust, and damage, so please only purchase if you understand antique art, collectibles, and vintage items.
