Antique Rosalind Lace Rosalyn Perle & Snowflake Crystal Doily

299.00 $
Description
A beautiful and rare all-lace round doily from Bruges, the Venice of Belgium, combining antique snowflake motifs with the Rosalyn Perle technique.

The center motif, spreading leaves and flowers in eight directions, resembles a snowflake and is a unique and striking design.

The flowers with their spreading petals appear elegant, like orchids or lilies.

Crafted using an embroidery technique called Rosaline Lace, Rosalyn Lace, or Rosalyn Perle, where French knots/circles (small beaded rings) with a three-dimensional effect are created while weaving with bobbins. The dots representing the pistils and stamens in the center of the flowers are plump, and the raised circles are lovely like pearls or baby pearls.

The ivory-colored thread is very fine, and the picots adorning the edges are delicate. The raised outline is made of a bundle of extremely fine threads, creating a vibrant miniature artwork.

The color is an elegant ivory with a hint of fresh green, or a gentle, aged ecru that carries the passage of time. Its supple, smooth, soft, and lustrous delicate texture is also a charm. The material is likely very fine, high-quality linen, or a linen and cotton blend.

Rosaline/Rosalyn means rose, and Perle means pearl. The owner of the lace shop explained, This type of handwork is so labor-intensive that there are no longer people who can do it today.

Please excuse any errors in the amateur measurements below.

Diameter: 13-12.7 cm
Weight: 2-3g
*This piece is smaller than a previously listed similar item.

This is an original piece that has aged over time. Due to slight discoloration, it has been carefully spot-cleaned and is now uniform and clean. There are currently no stains or damage, and the texture is largely unchanged. However, please refrain from purchasing if you are concerned about this.

To preserve the color and texture, we recommend avoiding bleaching. If it does get dirty, we suggest quickly washing it with (natural) soap and drying it immediately.

Many of the lovely antique lace shops near the canals of the ancient city of Bruges did not carry works made with this technique.

We also have other items for sale, including collars and Point de Gaze pieces from French and Belgian lace museums, such as Brussels lace and Duchesse lace with embroidered flowers, and Point de Rose.

We also have a larger piece for sale (23cm diameter) with a center made using the drawn thread technique: Antique Belgian Bruges Rosalyn & Drawn Thread Lace Doily φ23cm.

*This is the lowest possible price.
