Antique Brussels Duchess Lace Collar with Classic Roses and Leaves

A handmade Brussels lace lappet/collar from Belgium.
More specifically, it is likely Duchesse lace, possibly from the late 1800s, with a shawl collar style. It also resembles Honiton lace.

The central motif features prominent, rounded Point de Rose roses and leaves that appear to cascade downwards.
Inside, around the neck, are rhythmic loops of round leaves, and the outer rim has round motifs resembling mini roses or sunflowers arranged in a petal-like scallop pattern.

The ornate center, with five roses arranged in a row, looks beautiful whether worn down the front or back, or even as a head adornment.

The piece is characterized by its delicate, rounded leaves, with varying densities creating a sense of shadow, crossed bridges, and even vein details.

The edges are embroidered with a delicate picot lace, enhancing its subtlety and charm.

The beautiful coloring is also very attractive. It's a sophisticated antique ecru color with pale glass ivory, a hint of khaki green, and a grayish tone.

This piece has likely never been washed, possessing the beautiful tone that only time can bestow upon aged works.

The texture is smooth, soft, yet firm with a pleasant dryness. It has a subtle sheen and is likely made from fine linen thread, or possibly a blend of cotton or silk. Woven with very fine threads, it is extremely lightweight.

This lace was created using multiple bobbins, skillfully employed to achieve complex, three-dimensional motifs. It is a technique known as the lace of ladies, characterized by exceptional craftsmanship and elegant details.

In beautiful condition with no noticeable stains, dirt, major tears, or rips. There are a few very short, slightly light brown threads, but they are not very noticeable.

When not in use, it can be beautifully displayed by draping it over a large glass vase or even framing it.
