Panamanian Mola Tote Bag. Handmade. Multi overlay w/ Stitching. Folk Art.
Guna Indigenous Tribe
Panamanian Mola tote bag, a traditional hand-woven piece featuring authentic reverse-appliqué textile art. This vibrant folk art form is traditionally crafted by the Guna (Kuna) indigenous people native to Panama and parts of Colombia. Molas are created by layering fabrics of different colors, cutting away parts of each layer, and hand-stitching the edges to form intricate geometric or animal-centric shapes. The style is deeply tied to Guna identity and originally evolved from traditional body painting designs. Authentic panels are frequently integrated into modern consumer goods like burlap, cotton, or canvas shoulder tote bags. This is a beautiful multi colored tote in excellent condition. I don’t believe it was ever used. Size 16 1/2” by 13”.
