Seto Sometsuke Hibachi - Phoenix Arabesque Pattern - Zashiki Hibachi
A craft item from the late Meiji to Taisho period, inspired by the elegant and auspicious Phoenix motif. Made in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, during the Meiji to early Showa periods. Features delicate phoenix and arabesque patterns drawn with a cobalt blue pigment called Gosu. This is a Zashiki Hibachi (medium size), which is slightly larger than a typical Te-aburi Hibachi (hand-warming brazier) and was used as a primary heating source in living rooms.
Use it as a heating appliance (hand warmer) by placing ash and a trivet inside. For disaster preparedness: as a non-electric heater, or for simple cooking during emergencies.
Beyond its use as a brazier, it can also serve as a cover for potted plants, a water basin or medaka (killifish) tank, or a vase. Placing a top board on it transforms it into a side table. With its Japanese modern atmosphere, it complements not only Japanese-style rooms but also adds an accent to Western-style rooms.
Size: Diameter 37cm, Inner Diameter 27cm, Height 23.5cm, Weight 7.4kg.
