[What is Shigaraki Ware?]
Pottery produced in and around Shigaraki Town, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. It is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, said to have originated in the Tenpyo era, and is a traditional craft characterized by its simple warmth.
Its rustic texture, which brings out the natural feel of the clay, has been loved by many people over the years. In ancient times, it was discovered by tea masters such as Sen no Rikyu as an art form utilizing fire and earth, and Shigaraki ware has conveyed Japanese aesthetic Wabi-Sabi to the present day.
