【Rare】 Shigaraki Ware Tanuki Figurine, Lucky Charm, Raccoon Dog, Antique, Retro, Vintage

This is a Tanuki (raccoon dog) figurine made of Shigaraki ware, a traditional craft from Shiga Prefecture.
Its most distinctive feature is its powerful, unique expression, which sets it apart from typical Shigaraki Tanuki. The wide-open mouth and sharp teeth create a charmingly humorous and wild appeal, exuding an overwhelming presence.
Shigaraki Tanuki are cherished as lucky charms for business prosperity and good fortune, due to a pun on the word Tanuki sounding like 抜く (nuku), meaning to excel or surpass others. This particular figurine is well-equipped with the Hasso Engi (eight auspicious elements) including a hat, a sake flask, and a passbook.
We highly recommend this unique figurine for those looking for a distinctive accent piece for their entryway, shop display, or garage.
