Vintage handmade by an artisan, Akita Prefecture folk toy, Yahashi Doll "Carp Holding Doll"

This is a Koi Dakki Doll (Koi Hugging Doll) from Akita Prefecture's traditional folk toys.
Its simple, charming face is lovely. Each piece is individually handcrafted, from molding and drying to firing and coloring.
It is said to have been influenced by Fushimi Dolls from Kyoto in the mid-Edo period and became popular in the Yatsuhashi district of Akita City.

Kintaro riding a koi is displayed to wish for a child's health and success in life. It also embodies the wish for them to grow into strong children.

The color red has anciently signified warding off evil and has been used in charms to wish for children's good health.

The sight of the doll smiling and hugging a koi is utterly heartwarming.

It has a strong presence that enhances interior decor, and its simple face brings a sense of peace.
