Traditional Japanese handmade folk toys, a pair of Dolls approximately 11-12cm in size, appearing to be from the mid-Showa period.
They have been stored long-term in a display case at my parents' home, and there are signs of age-related dirt and wear, so please check the images.
⚫︎ A Dojyo Sukui (loach-scooping dance) Doll, approximately 11cm tall, wearing a striped headband and dancing humorously to the rhythmic sounds of drums and shamisen, accompanying the Yasugi-bushi folk song from Shimane Prefecture.
⚫︎ A folk art Doll inspired by the traditional performing art On-daiko from the Sado region of Niigata Prefecture, approximately 12cm tall.
On-daiko is a Shinto ritual performance where dancers wear demon masks and beat drums while dancing, symbolizing a bountiful harvest and warding off evil spirits, and is performed during New Year's and festivals.
