Papier-mâché "Lion Head" / Mask Vintage Folk Art Traditional Craft
I've forgotten the exact year it was made or its origin, but this is an old, modern-looking papier-mâché Lion's Head featuring a striking black, red, and gold color scheme.
Judging by the painting and shape, I believe it was made during the Showa period. Due to age, the old Japanese paper on the back of the mask has also aged to a deep, rich color.
This is a vintage item purchased around 2018 at Bath House, the shop and office of Swimsuit Department in Kita-Aoyama, Tokyo.
After purchase, it was kept in a dimly lit corner of my living room (away from direct sunlight), so there is no subsequent sun fading or discoloration. However, as it is a vintage item, please understand that there may be minor scratches.
There are some minor cracks in the paint, but no peeling or dents, making it a beautiful piece with minimal damage.
Dimensions: Total length 130mm x Width 100mm x Height 70mm. Please note that these are amateur measurements and may contain slight errors. A box is not included.
As I personally enjoy vintage furniture and clothing, it has been stored alongside these items. Therefore, those particularly sensitive to odors should exercise caution when bidding. I do not smoke, so that aspect should not be an issue.
