VTG Smithsonian Institution 100% Wool Baroque Scarf Shawl Italy 55” Square Red

Vintage Smithsonian Institution Italian Wool Oversized Scarf / Shawl  A beautiful and unusual vintage Smithsonian Institution oversized scarf, made in Italy from 100% wool.  Featuring an elaborate Baroque-inspired design in rich crimson red, deep navy, antique gold and ivory, with an ornate central medallion surrounded by scrolling floral and acanthus motifs.  One of the nicest details is the fabric itself—the wool has a subtle woven jacquard texture, particularly visible throughout the red field, giving the scarf beautiful depth and dimension depending on the light.  Its generous approximately 55” square size allows it to be worn in many ways—as an oversized scarf, shoulder shawl, wrap or statement accessory. There are a couple of small holes/pinholes and minor imperfections, primarily in the red areas, as photographed. The fringe also shows some light age-related wear.  These flaws have been photographed closely and are reflected in the condition and pricing.
