Vintage 1971 Signed Studio Pottery Vase | Handmade Stoneware Drip Glaze Vessel
Vintage
A wonderfully expressive piece of vintage studio pottery with rich, earthy glaze movement and unmistakable handmade character. This tall cylindrical stoneware vessel features layered shades of deep brown, charcoal, ochre, cream and soft blue-gray. Glossy drip glazes move organically across the textured surface, creating an almost landscape-like effect that changes beautifully as the vase is turned. The interior is finished in a deep charcoal/slate glaze with visible throwing rings, while the exterior retains the wonderfully irregular texture and variation associated with individually made studio pottery. The unglazed base bears an incised signature that appears to read “Evelyn ’71,” suggesting an approximate production date of 1971. The artist has not been independently identified, so the signature is described as it appears rather than attributed to a known potter. Approximate Measurements • Height: approximately 9–9½” • Opening: approximately 3¼” across • Weight: approximately 2 lb. 12 oz. Condition Good vintage condition with age-related and handmade character. The piece shows glaze variation, surface irregularities and areas of glaze loss/wear, particularly around portions of the rim and upper interior. The rim is organically shaped and somewhat uneven, consistent in part with handmade studio pottery, with additional age-related wear visible upon close inspection. No major structural damage is apparent in the photographs. Please review all photos
