How about using this to replace a plastic nut?
Even on inexpensive ukuleles, simply replacing the plastic with cow bone will significantly improve the sound.

Ukuleles come in various sizes.
If the replacement is larger than the original, it can be filed down, but if it is smaller, there is nothing that can be done, so please check the size carefully.

Since it is unlikely to be exactly the same, installation will require height adjustment while checking string height, and processing to adjust the saddle and nut mounting width.

Please note that this requires a certain level of skill.
