KAMAKA, the oldest ukulele manufacturer in Hawaii, established in 1916, has maintained its consistent quality and has been loved to this day.
Building on this proven technology, they continue to evolve and pursue new forms.
This is a luxurious deluxe model featuring beautiful rope binding reminiscent of the ukulele boom of the 1920s, an ultra-thin gloss lacquer finish requiring skilled craftsmanship, an ebony fingerboard and bridge that give definition to the sound, and most importantly, Hawaiian koa wood with beautiful quilting.
Herb Ohta-san, the ukulele maestro, collaborated on the development of this model.
It features a larger, bell-shaped body, which produces a more relaxed low-end compared to standard models.
Also, influenced by Ohta-san's collaboration, a Low G tuning is standard from the factory.
The neck scale is slightly longer than a concert ukulele, making it easier to play relaxed solos.
This ukulele is recommended for those who want to create a calm and sweet atmosphere.
The sound of KAMAKA
Generally, ukuleles become more resonant as the wood dries. Wood contains two types of moisture: free water and bound water.
Free water is moisture that freely enters and exits the wood, while bound water is moisture firmly bound to the cellulose that makes up the wood.
When used in a good environment, bound water seeps out of the cellulose and becomes free water. The cellulose, having lost moisture (bound water), crystallizes and hardens. Once this happens, the cellulose does not easily absorb moisture and maintains that state.
This is what is commonly referred to as aging or drying out. This process is very gradual, progressing slowly over units of 10 or 20 years.
