The characteristic waistband of Monpe Pants is made by combining three types of elastic: flat elastic, shirred elastic, and cord elastic, each offering a different level of tightness.
Instead of being cinched by a single line of elastic, three different types of elastic work together in a relaxed surface to provide a superior stretch and comfortable fit for a wide range of body types.

Among the three types of elastic, the cord elastic plays a supplementary role.
For those with a smaller waist or when carrying heavy items in the large pockets of Monpe Pants, tightening the cord elastic prevents the pants from slipping down.
If you prefer a looser waistband, you can generally remove the cord elastic without issue.

Furthermore, Monpe Pants are designed without a front or back, eliminating the need to check orientation when groggy in the morning or changing inside a sleeping bag in a cramped tent. This design offers the flexibility to adjust the waistband height according to the situation and your body shape.

For relaxation or for those with a larger build, wear them low on the hips.
For agile movement or for those with a smaller build, wear them high-waisted.
