Vintage Corningware B 8.5" skillet Buffet Server white w black lid knob 1960s
Corningware
Corningware was (and still is) a classic workhorse in the kitchen. The B 8.5 skillet was made in the 1960s and were part of the initial Buffet Server line designed for stove-to-table functionality. The Pyroceram dish is extremely heat-tolerant. The black knob is made of Bakelite, a heat-resistant plastic and can blister if exposed to oven temperatures exceeding 350deg F. The Pyroceram is microwave-safe. In fact, the material was originally developed for missile nosecones because it is transparent to radio frequency energy (including microwaves), allowing radar signals to pass through without interference! A piece of mid century still good to be used today. Note the small chip on the bottom lip (see photo). Depth about 2 Diameter about 8.5 One owner - from my family estate. .
