This is a three-panel folding screen made with marquetry, manufactured in Japan in 1977 (Showa 52) and exported overseas.

Each panel features a design of peacocks (auspicious birds) set within a pine forest and landscape. This is not a painting, but rather a marquetry (mokuzogan) technique that involves cutting and assembling natural wood pieces of different colors. The intricate lines of the tail feathers and plumage, as well as the shading in the background, convey the effort and skill characteristic of handcrafted furniture from that era.

The entire piece, including the frame and legs, is robustly constructed. The back is finished in a manner suitable for display or commercial use. As shown in the photos, the Kobe Customs inspection stamp and manufacturing date stamp are visible, making this a valuable item that clearly indicates it is export craft furniture.

While there are some scuffs, minor scratches, and color variations due to age, there is no critical damage. This is a striking piece that can be used as a partition or decorative fixture in old houses, ryokan, or Japanese-style stores.
