Description
Expo Kansai Osaka
This is a sculptural work from the Senegal Pavilion.
It is said to be a rare, one-of-a-kind piece, created in the likeness of a tribal queen from Senegal.

It is made of ebony, making it surprisingly heavy and beautifully lustrous.
I purchased it because I really liked it, but I will sell it to anyone who desires it.

Material: Ebony (Kokutan).
Ebony is a hardwood from the Diospyros genus in the Ebenaceae family, distributed in India, Africa, and other regions. Its heartwood is particularly characterized by its black color, hardness, and density. It is prized as a high-quality wood for furniture, Buddhist altars, musical instruments (such as piano keys and fingerboards), high-end chopsticks, and seals. Due to its extremely slow growth, it is highly valuable and has become even rarer due to over-logging.

Features
▫︎ Material: Very heavy, hard, and dense.

▫︎ Appearance: Deep black color with wood grain and luster.

▫︎ Classification: Classified into types such as Hon Kokutan (jet black), Shima Kokutan (black and reddish-brown stripes), and Ao Kokutan (bluish-black) based on the blackness of the heartwood and grain patterns.

▫︎ Other: Slow-growing with a specific gravity so high that it sinks in water.
