Description
This is an antique sewing box from the Meiji or Taisho era. I believe it is the smallest size among sewing boxes of this shape.
Approximate dimensions are: Width 23 cm, Height 18 cm, Depth 15 cm, Weight 950g.

The material is zelkova (keyaki) on the surface, paulownia (kiri) on the inside, and the metal fittings such as the drawer knobs, pulls, and top hinges are likely copper. Please note that a ruler cannot be stored inside.
There are signs of use, but there are almost no noticeable stains, chips, cracks, or splits.
The drawers open and close smoothly without wobbling, and the condition can be described as good.

The approximate interior dimensions (cm) of the pincushion, tool compartment, and drawers are as follows:
[Pincushion]
4.8 (length) x 4.8 (width) x 1.5 (depth) /
[Tool Compartment]
6 (length) x 13.5 (width) x 2.5 (depth) /
[Small Drawer]
12 (depth) x 9 (width) x 3.9 (height) /
[Large Drawer]
12 (depth) x 20 (width) x 4.6 (height) /

Sewing boxes, including portable ones, are still sold today in various sizes and shapes. Larger, more modern-looking ones than the item for sale are often called sewing boxes.

The materials, fittings, and craftsmanship of this antique sewing box suggest it is from the Meiji or Taisho era, and it is likely the work of a joiner (furniture craftsman), although the exact period of production is unknown.
This antique sewing box is a used item, but it is in good condition with almost no noticeable stains or damage. We believe it would be interesting to use it as a small item storage and interior decoration, in addition to collecting.
