Description
This is a listing for a single-door folk craft Sendai Tansu chest made of zelkova wood with a kiji-ro lacquer finish and peony-motif metal fittings, designated as a traditional craft of Miyagi Prefecture. The history of Sendai Tansu is long, with its origins dating back to the late Edo period. Sendai Tansu is created through the integration of three techniques: sashimono (joinery), nuri (lacquering), and kanagu (metalwork). The process, where each professional perfects their craft and carefully builds a single Sendai Tansu, is truly a baton relay of craftsmanship. In every step, skilled artisans imbue the chest with soul through their expert techniques. Its sturdy yet lustrous appearance, with the beautiful sheen of the kiji-ro lacquer and the striking, heavy peony metal fittings, is captivating. A Sendai Tansu born from authentic craftsmanship is an exceptionally excellent product that can be used for generations. The drawers are made of paulownia wood, featuring a well-built, airtight construction. This product is finished with the skilled techniques passed down through the tireless efforts of artisans. It is a masterpiece that allows you to feel the meticulous craftsmanship unique to skilled artisans and the outstanding skill and dedication of top-tier woodworking artisans.
