Up for sale is a captivating piece of scientific history. This is a 1941 second edition copy of Outlines of Physical Geology by Chester R. Longwell, Adolph Knopf, and Richard F. Flint, published by John Wiley & Sons.  What makes this copy truly exceptional is its unique provenance and association history. It was the personal copy of Dr. John A. Clendening (1932–2012), a notable West Virginia native, West Virginia University alumnus, and career geologist/palynologist who specialized in Appalachian Basin strata. The book includes his personal ownership stamp (J. A. CLENDENING) and a beautifully preserved, handwritten ink inscription on the front flyleaf reading: Property of John A. Clendening, 415 N. Samuel St., Charles Town, W.Va.  Adding to its nostalgic charm, a vintage black-and-white snapshot from the late 1940s/early 1950s is securely attached inside, depicting a young man posing on the fender of a classic postwar automobile parked outside a garage.  Condition:  This book is sold in honest vintage condition. The dark red cloth cover features classic embossed horizontal banding and showing typical shelf wear, rubbed edges, and a warm aged patina.
