Tane Mexico Pewter Chamberstick Candle Holder Hand Hammered Vintage Estano 96

Vintage chamberstick candle holder made by TANE, the well known Mexican silversmith and metalware house founded in Mexico City in the 1940s. The underside is stamped with the TANE mark reading TANE Mexico Estaño 96, estaño being Spanish for pewter or tin, with 96 referring to the alloy purity.  The piece has a wide octagonal hand hammered drip pan, a turned pewter candle socket in the center raised on a small baluster stem, a curled snuffer hook on one side, and an octagonal thumb rest finger loop handle so it can be carried room to room, which is the classic chamberstick form used before electric lighting. The hammered texture across the pan is all done by hand, giving it that soft, slightly uneven artisan surface typical of Tane's work.  Measures approximately 6 inches across the pan and stands a few inches tall at the candle socket.  A great piece for anyone who collects Mexican silver and pewter, mid-century design, or is furnishing a home with genuine handmade metalware.  Please look at photos closely for condition.
