Vintage c. 1960s–70s turtle brooch featuring an ornate gold-tone openwork body surrounding a domed thermoset faux jasper cabochon. The richly marbled burgundy-red shell has cream and golden inclusions, while green rhinestone eyes adds a jewel-like accent. Figural animal brooches were fashionable accessories during the mid-century costume jewelry era, and thermoset plastics allowed makers to create colorful stone-like effects at an accessible price.
