【Meiji Era Masterpiece】Shōso Mishima ❀ Sōso Kigo Zu - Original Item 【Romantic Art Print】

This is a work by Mishima Shosō depicting romantic Lovers.

A woman clings to a man, who calmly accepts her. It's a piece that leaves you wondering what will happen to the two of them.

Shosō (1852-1914) was an ukiyo-e artist and Japanese painter active in the Kanto art world during the Meiji and Taisho periods.

He presented Ivy at the first exhibition of the Kanga-kai in the 18th year of Meiji, and it was highly praised by art critic Fenollosa. In his later years, he also painted coffered ceilings for the Imperial Palace.

Shosō's talent was most evident in the world of illustrations for literary magazines in the late Meiji period.
In particular, his works depicting the writings of literary masters such as Ozaki Kōyō and Kōda Rohan possessed a wonderful expressiveness that captured the core of the stories.

His depictions of women are characterized by their dignified elegance and an intellectual melancholy. This is a masterpiece that combines Edo's iki with modern sensibility.

This Sōso Kigo Zu is the same work held in the University of Hawaii Library, making it a piece of extremely high artistic value.
