15.84 $
Description
- Technique: Woodblock print, Ukiyo-e
- Condition: Some signs of insect damage
- Period: Kan'en 1 (1748)
- Artist: Tachibana Morikuni

Housed in a wooden frame with an A4-sized acrylic front. An authentic piece from the Edo period. The artwork is a set of two sheets of Japanese paper. Upon close inspection, a seam where the two sheets are joined can be seen in the center.

The insect damage has been minimized by applying backing paper from the Edo period to the reverse side. A work of great impact.

Tachibana Morikuni (1679 - November 7, 1748) was a town painter of the Kano school active in Osaka during the mid-Edo period. He published many picture books and, along with Nishikawa Sukenobu and Oka Shuntoku, who were active in the Kyoto-Osaka region around the same time and also published many picture books, greatly influenced later Ukiyo-e artists. His representative works are housed in institutions such as the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the National Museum of World Cultures, the Vanderbilt University Visual Arts Gallery, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the New York Public Library Print Collection.
