Tsukioka Yoshitoshi "Biographies of Famous Warriors of the Present Age" Ukiyo-e Japanese Painting Woodblock Print Tenpo Suikoden
Circa Meiji/Taisho Era
Kinsei Kyogiden depicts the conflict between the gamblers, including the Sasagawa Shigezo family and the Iioka Sukegoro family, which occurred in Shimosa during the late Edo period.
Yagiri Shota (Iichi of Yagi Village), along with his brother, was one of Iioka's key figures and succeeded in assassinating Sasagawa. When Kiyotaki Sakichi and others attacked in retaliation, the Iioka forces were routed. However, Yagiri fought bravely, killing forty to fifty men to hold them back, and even rushed in when Iioka himself was about to be killed.
