Title: Late Autumn at the Foot of Mt. Yatsugatake

Born in Tokyo in 1931. After graduating from Chuo University in 1953, he studied under Shoji Aikawa in 1976 and began his career as a mountain painter in earnest. He moved his studio to Yamanashi Prefecture in 1988 and has been creating works centered around the Northern Alps, Southern Alps, and Mt. Yatsugatake. He is also passionate about teaching and has served as an instructor at the Mt. Yarigatake Sanso Sketching Class, organized by the Japan Mountain Painting Association, every autumn.

Mr. Takei studied painting while working as a salaried employee. He became an independent mountain painter about 40 years ago. He has traversed most of the mountains in the Northern and Southern Alps. He has also traveled abroad, climbing the Eiger (Switzerland) and the Himalayas. He has a particular fondness for Mt. Kitahotaka (Nagano). No matter how many times I go, it shows me a variety of expressions. The expression of the mountain changes completely depending on the air, weather, time, and even my own physical condition.

About 20 years ago, he built a studio in Hakushu Town (then) and made Yamanashi his base of operations. He moved to Nirasaki about 12 years ago. Recently, due to ill health, his creative activities have been centered in his studio. He paints on canvas with brushes and knives, based on his past sketches.
