■ Kohei Samizu's Artistic Career
1904 Born in Ogawa, Kami-Minochi District, Nagano Prefecture
Began sumi-e at age 13, and oil painting at age 17.

1929 Entered the Western Painting School of Seifu Tsuda. Exhibited at the Nika Exhibition.

1933 Established the Dokuritsu Bijutsu Kyoto Kenkyujo (Independent Art Kyoto Research Institute) with colleagues.
Received guidance from Kunitaro Suda (1891-1961).
Continuously exhibited at the Dokuritsu Bijutsu Ten (Independent Art Exhibition).

1939 Moved to Tokyo, became a founding member of the Bijutsu Bunka Kyokai (Art Culture Association),
and exhibited at the association's exhibitions thereafter.

1941 Drafted into the military. Transferred from Manchuria's Botanjiang to Java.
In Bandung, Java, created a collection of battlefield sketches under military orders.

1972 Painted the ceiling and sliding door paintings for Fukufuku-ji Temple in Fukuoka,
and sliding door paintings for San-gen-in and Ryuko-in at Daitoku-ji Temple in Kyoto.

1973 Stayed in Italy for an extended period, studying classical painting.
Thereafter, traveled to Nepal, the Himalayas, Egypt,
and various parts of China for research, painting landscape works.

1988 Became a member of the Japan Art Federation, served as chairman of the Sumibi Ten (Charcoal Fire Exhibition) organizing committee,
and as secretary-general of the Toshima Ward Artists Association, before his passing.
