Oil Painting "The Raft of the Medusa" with a heavy wooden framed glass
This is a replica of The Raft of the Medusa.
The artist is Théodore Géricault of France. This is an oil painting from around 1818, and the original is housed in the Louvre Museum, measuring 491 cm x 716 cm. The subject is the shipwreck of the French frigate Méduse.
I received this about 30 years ago and displayed it in my living room for about 2 years before storing it in a closet.
It was not kept in a box, so while the frame may have minor scuffs and scratches, the painting itself and the felt inner frame are in good condition.
Upon inspection for this listing, the backing board was damaged, so I have replaced only the backing board with lauan plywood from a home improvement store (see photo 2).
As shown in photos 3 and 4, this is a thick frame designed to accommodate an oil painting canvas.
We are looking for buyers who understand that this is a long-term household storage item.
Please note that the original box is not included. We will do our best to pack it with cardboard, but please understand that it will be packed by amateurs (two elderly people working together).
