■ Kohei Samizu's Artistic Career
1904 Born in Ogawa, Kami-Minochi District, Nagano Prefecture
Began ink painting at age 13 and oil painting at age 17.

1929 Entered Seifu Tsuda's Western Painting School. Exhibited at the Nika Exhibition.

1933 Established the Kyoto Institute of Independent Art with colleagues.
Received guidance from Kunitaro Suda (1891-1961).
Continuously exhibited at the Independent Art Exhibition.

1939 Moved to Tokyo, became a founding member of the Art and Culture Association,
and exhibited at the same exhibition thereafter.

1941 Drafted into the army. Transferred from Manchuria (Haborovsk) to Java.
In Bandung, Java, created a collection of battlefield sketches under military orders.

1972 Painted the ceiling and sliding door paintings at Fukufuku-ji Temple in Fukuoka,
and the sliding door paintings at Daitoku-ji Temple's Genkoin and Ryukoin in Kyoto.

1973 Stayed in Italy for an extended period to study classical painting.
Thereafter, traveled to Nepal, the Himalayas, Egypt,
and various parts of China to sketch landscapes.

1988 Became a member of the Japan Fine Arts Federation, Chairman of the Sumibi Exhibition Executive Committee,
and Secretary-General of the Toshima Ward Artists Association, before his passing.
