French Art Deco "pocket-emptier" decorative bowl / ashtray
Vintage
Fazzoletto ('handkerchief') Art Deco bowl in brass dating from the 1920s to 1930s. It's characteristic pleated design imitates the shape of draped fabric, popular in France and Italy during the Art Deco period. This is a vide-poche which translates to means pocket-emptier — it's the French term for a small dish or tray used to hold keys, coins, and other small items, often translated as catch-all, valet tray, or pocket tray. This particular model stands out for the addition of a thin handle attached at the sides, allowing it to be used as a small display basket or decorative catch-all/valet tray.
