Description
This is a 1953 Gretsch snare drum.
It is also known as the X4153, or floor show model.
It features characteristics typical of early 50s Gretsch snares:
- 3-ply shell (see photo 7)
- No interior shell coating
- Round internal muffler
A date stamp is pressed under the lug screws (see photo 8). The screws were removed once, and the inscription OCT, 26 1953 was confirmed.
The drum is in good condition for its age, with minimal tarnishing on the metal parts and no dirt or peeling on the covering.
The snare strainer mechanism operates without issue, and has never accidentally disengaged or loosened during play.
Both the top and bottom hoops are original, of course.
The snare wires are also vintage, believed to be original. While they show some age-related wear, they are still functional and have been used without problems in this condition.
